Recycled Content is classified in two categories. Post-consumer material is defined as waste material generated by households or by commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities in their role as end-user of the product, which can no longer be used for its intended purpose. Pre-consumer is defined as material diverted from the waste stream during the manufacturing process.Recycled Content shall be defined in accordance with the International Organization for Standardization document, ISO 14021-Environmental labels and declarations – Self declared environmental claims (Type II environmental labeling). This would include third party certifications such as CPA’s EPP (Environmentally Preferred Products) and Scientific Certification Systems’ Indoor Air Quality Performance Standard (SCS-EC10.2-2007).
